N95 respirators reduce the amount of (potentially viral) particles inhaled and expelled by their wearers.
N95 respirators are tested and approved by the US National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and they have been found to have a filtration efficiency of 95% or more against non-oily particles.
All of the respirators available for purchase here are approved for use in response to the Covid 19 Pandemic and have equivalent filtration properties, but differ on fluid resistance. The respirators that have both FDA and NIOSH approval are typically used in surgical settings. They are tested for resistance to fluids to 160mmhg.
